Clarke VINE Coverage
Alabama has two notification layers that Clarke County users can confuse. The public VINE route is Alabama VINELink, available through VINELink Alabama and the VINE app route. The Alabama Victim Notification System is a separate state notification source. Its scope statement is critical: it says VNS is only for offenders convicted in Alabama and sentenced to prison or ADOC custody. For Clarke County, that means a person released on bond from Clarke County Jail should not be treated as an ADOC VNS event. The county jail, sheriff, and court record remain the official path. If the person was sentenced to ADOC custody, released to mandatory supervision, or involved in a parole-related event, VNS, ADOC, and ABPP become more relevant.

Register Clarke Release Alerts
VINE alerts are useful when the person is currently in a covered custody record and the user wants a release, transfer, or status-change notice. The system's exact prompts may vary, but the same general steps apply. Save the confirmation details because notification settings may need to be updated if a phone number or email changes.

- Choose the notification option, often labeled "Get Notified" or similar.
- Add available contact methods such as phone, email, or text.
- Create a PIN or confirmation credential if the system requires one.
- Complete registration and keep the confirmation details.
- Update contact details if phone, email, or notification preferences change.
VINE does not replace direct jail confirmation for a Clarke County pretrial release. If the case has not gone to trial, Alabama VNS itself points the user back to the county sheriff where the crime occurred. In Clarke County, that means the jail phone and sheriff office are the local fallback.
Alabama VNS Limits
The Alabama Victim Notification System says it is only for offenders convicted in Alabama and sentenced to prison or ADOC custody. That narrow scope is the most important local distinction for Clarke County. A person released from Clarke County Jail before trial, after bond, or after a local court order should be checked with the sheriff and court, not treated as an ADOC VNS release.
The VNS FAQ says notification events can include upcoming parole or pardon hearings, medical release, furlough or leave, mandatory supervision release from ADOC custody, custody or status changes, end of sentence, and death. Those are meaningful events, but they are not a public archive of Clarke County jail releases. Clarke Jail Fallback
If VINE or VNS does not show the person, return to the custody source. For a Clarke County arrest that has not gone to trial, Alabama VNS itself points users to the county sheriff. Ask whether the person is currently in custody, whether the jail can confirm a release, and whether a public booking/release record is available.
The fallback should include a court check. A VINE result may say custody changed, but the Clarke County Circuit Clerk record explains bond, sentence, dismissal, probation, warrants, and other case actions. The clerk is the official record keeper for District and Circuit Court proceedings, and most trial-court information can be routed through alacourt.gov or Just One Look with required fees.

VNS Event Types
VNS event terms should be read carefully because each one points to a different source. A parole or pardon hearing points to ABPP. Mandatory supervision points to ADOC and ABPP. A custody status change may need confirmation from the facility. End of sentence or death is not the same as a county jail release record. The originating agency should be used for the record behind the notice.

Confirm Clarke VINE Results
If VINE shows a release or status change, verify it with the agency that created the record. For Clarke County Jail, ask for the booking/release record and the release reason. For a court-driven release, check the Clarke County Circuit Clerk or Alacourt. For ADOC custody, use the ADOC inmate search while remembering that it is current-only, then use ADOC public-records requests for deeper records. For federal custody, use BOP or federal court. For immigration custody, use ICE.
Do not treat silence from VINE as proof that a person is still held or has no record. Coverage, timing, spelling, identifiers, and custody type all affect results. A call to the jail remains the direct route for a Clarke County pretrial or same-day jail release.

Outside VINE Systems
Some Clarke County release questions fall outside VINE and VNS. The BOP inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present, and BOP explains that a future release date is a projected federal date. Use BOP when the person was convicted in federal court or the jail reports a federal transfer. The U.S. Marshals route may matter for federal pretrial custody or transport, but it is not a county-style public release roster.
ICE is separate as well. ICE's Online Detainee Locator System is for people currently in ICE custody or people who have been in CBP custody for more than 48 hours. If a Clarke County jail response mentions immigration custody, detainer, or ICE handoff, treat that as a custody transfer. A county jail "release" in that situation does not prove the person returned to the community.
ALEA registry tools are also separate. The sex-offender registry can help with qualifying registrants after release, but it is not a general VINE lookup and not a county jail release notice. Use it only when registry status itself is the issue.
These outside systems should be used only after the custody path points there. Starting with BOP, ICE, or the registry can miss the local record that explains why the person left Clarke County Jail. Starting with the jail and court first keeps the VINE check tied to the right booking, case, and custody source.
When the custody source is unclear, ask Clarke County Jail for the transfer destination first, then choose the state, federal, immigration, registry, or court route from that answer. Keep the booking number with any VINE result so later agency calls refer to the same documented release event.
